Creating Folder Shares in a CAFS environment

$

I am building an extensive Continuously Available File Server environment.  I am setting up users Home directory's in this location.  I share the folder with permissions to the user and domain admin only.  The login script contains the path to the file share through.  This was working until this pass weekend.

I noticed that the share configuration was gone leaving the folder unshared.  After re-sharing the folder, the only path that would work was \\Physical host name\user folder name.  This name does not work with a failover.  The path I used prior to today was \\CAFS server name\share name\user folder name.  The log in script does partially map but only to \\CAFS server name\share name.  The server event log does not indicate any errors.  Has anyone worked with folder sharing in a CAFS environment.

hello

today, i'm encountered an issuer caused windows 2012 cluster have an outage. the issue details is below:

Event ID: 1146

Log Name: System

Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

Task Category: Resource Control Manager

Level: Critical

Description:

The cluster resource host subsystem (RHS) stopped unexpectedly. An attempt will be made to restart it. This is usually due to a problem in a resource DLL. Please determine which resource DLL is causing the issue and report the problem to the resource vendor.

i have googled solution, only found a relevant hotfix for windows 2008R2. not quite sure if also have path designated windows 2012

my environment is windows 2012 datacenter x64.

Can anyone give me some suggestion?

Hi all! I have a Hyper-v 2012 R2 failover cluster with 9 nodes, 5 nodes by Fujitsu BX600 and 4 nodes Fujitsu BX400. On everyone node i created 2 nic team of 2 interface. One NIC Team for Client Network, another for Heartbeat Network (ipv6 linklocal). This nic teams connect to blade switch.

All VMs, Live Migration work fine, but on nodes blade BX400 Heartbeat network connection is failed. In event i see event id 1127

We have two windows 2008 R2 Datacenter server on-premises with 10.0.20.0 subnet

We have one windows 2008 R2 Datacenter virtual machine on Microsoft Azure with 192.168.10.0 subnet.

We have already IPSec site-to -site VPN setup up and running between on-premises and Azure.

We have already created two node windows cluster on-premises.

But I unable to add 3rd node (Azure vm) to windows cluster.

How I will add azure vm node to existing windows cluster?

So i am just trying to setup a virtual Scale out file server for practice. I am trying to use Local Virtual Storage also.

At the very last step stuff breaks down.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? In addition is there ANY way to setup a Virtual Scale out file server with Local storage. I have set this up with the same results using a scsi controller and a sas controller.

How do I rename a File Server in a cluster? (I don't want to rename the cluster, just the file server role)

My cluster has been a receiver in a one-way replication from my physical/single primary file server. That primary server will be renamed, re-ip'ed and then I would then like to rename and re-ip my file server role in my cluster to that of the primary.

Is the change made here? Do I need to restart the file cluster offline or stop/start the file serve role?

Clustering crashes when creating a vhdx hard drive on a 2 node 2012R2 cluster.

Using a Lenovo S3200 SAN, I have 2*2012R2 servers directly attached to the SAN via fiberchannel with 2 connections per server to the SAN.

All was going well until I moved the system from the Build Lab to the production network.

We've had multiple issues with the SAN drives going offline, and the only way to fix it seems to require shutting down both nodes and bringing them back up one at a time.

Currently we can reproduce/force the issue by trying to create a new vhdx from the Roles/New virtual Machine/New Drive wizard. If we create any size vhdx on a cluster shared volume, no matter whether it is fixed or expanding, the wizard hangs at "Creating the new virtual hard disk" and the only way to get the entire cluster back and stable is to reboot both servers.

If I remove the Cluster Shared Volume Drive out of the cluster, I can then create a vhdx file on that volume with no problem.

If I then import the volume into the cluster again, explorer will immediately hang as soon as I browse to that location.

If we repeat the process but make the drive a vhd file, the above problems do not occur (but then I'm limited to Gen1 machines).

Using powershell to create a vhdx file on either the c drive or the cluster shared storage will fail if writing to the csv location as per screenshot below.

Currently if the csv contains a failed vhdx file, the only way to get the hosts to respond correctly seems to be to reformat the drives.

Has anyone seen this before? Am I missing something?

Hi guys,

i'm trying to find a whitepapers on the matter of failover clustering in server 2012 R2. I wish to know more about  failover clustering and what is happening behind the scenes. I'm working with a lot of instances of failover clusters and there is a always some mysterious crashes and stuff. Everything i can find is a article called "Windows Server 2008 Clustering Whitepapers available at Microsoft Download" in blogs technet microsoft com. Unfortunately i'm not able to share the link because of the limitations for newbies but anyone can google it. I will try to add it later

From what i'm reading in MVA, Technet, etc there is a lot of new features and changes in clustering between server 2012 R2 and 2008.

I will be very grateful for any links even suggestions for books but i prefer whitepapers as i stated earlier.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Question about Clustering / Load Balacing

Greetings,

I was asking myself something regarding Hyper-V Clustering. I want to setup a cluster working in Load Balancing mode (both Hypervisors turned on) instead of Failover mode.
I also want to be able to do virtual machines ' live migration between my two Hyper-V.
Is that requirements are possible with the Hyper-V clustering solution, or another Microsoft solution (Maybe Hyper-V replica ?) ? If yes, how can I configure that ?

Thank You for your help.

Regards,

File Share Witness on a NAS Drive

Hi, i have 2 sets of Always On Clusters (2 nodes in each)   1 set is 2008R2 and the other 2012. I need to configure a File Share Witness on both clusters that reside on a NAS Drive. After configuring the permissions to allow for the nodes and cluster object the 2012 cluster allows me to add the Witness without any issues. The 2008 R2 cluster will not work despite having identical permissions, has anyone managed to get this working on a 2008 R2 cluster (even with a workaround) or is this just not possible? I know i could use a Windows Server Share but that is not an option open at the moment.

The error i'm getting is  "\\server\share is not a valid file share path"

Many Thanks

Adding a 10Gb/e interface to a failover cluster

I have a Failover Cluster created with 2 nodes. Currently there are 5 networks available (Cluster Network 1 (2x1Gb/s teamed), iSCSI 1, iSCSI 2, Live Migration, and CSV) showing up.  They are running Windows 2012 datacenter.

Each node has 8x 1Gb/s connections: 4 for iSCSI, 2 (teamed switch independent) for Cluster Network, 1 for LM, and 1 for CSV.

I have added an Intel x710-2 10Gb/e to each node with the intention of speeding up live migrations and later adding 10Gb/s to the Cluster Network 1.  I have renamed the interface Live Migration 2 on each node.

I have configured port 1 of these cards to 172.50.1.3 and .4 and set up my switches to be untagged on vlan 50 (my live migration vlan).  Both nodes can ping each other as well as the current LM ip's of 1.1 and 1.2

Question: How do I get my new 10Gb interface to show up in Failover Cluster Manager so that I can select it for live migration settings?

Adding the 2nd 10Gb/s to the Cluster Network should be easy as I can just add it to the team. (I hope)

Thank you for any advise,

Terry

Cluster windows 2012 R2 fails over only quorum disk

$

Hello everyone

I'm working on my SQL certification and I'm trying to setup Cluster on windows 2012 R2
Here is my setup

1. File sever (iscsi target server with 3 disk, quorum, data and log disks)
2. SQL1 node (iscsi initiator, connected and mounted 3 disk before creation of cluster)
3. SQL2 node (iscsi initiator, connected and mounted 3 disk before creation of cluster)

No extra network card for Iscsi or heartbeat (figure I do not needed as this is just a test)

Cluster manager installed on File server
Cluster validated before creation, then created, now shows 3 disks under Storage-> Disks

As a test I moved cluster from node 1 to node 2 only to see that 1 disk out of 3 are mounted on node 2
Still cluster shows 3 disk under Storage-> Disks but if I click on cluster name in cluster manager snapin I see
under Cluser core resources only one disk -> Quorum Disk

Its been a while since I installed cluster so I am not sure if I am missing something here or maybe windows 2012 R2 does things differently ??

Please help me to resolve this issue.

PS

Other 2 disk are showing as reserved under disk management on both nodes

Failover clustering behaviour on Server 2012 R2

Hi,

Im learning failover clustering on server 2012 R2 and just managed to install failover clustering and file server role for testing purposes.

Nodes are named LABFILE1 and LABFILE2 and they are Hyper-V VMs on my Win10 computer. I have also Starwind virtual SAN server software on WIN10 host machine to provide the shared storage for these nodes.

If I disable LABFILE1 the cluster continues working just fine  with node LABFILE2 and shows my node LABFILE1 down.
BUT, if I disable LABFILE2 the cluster stops working completely and the role does not transfer to LABFILE1. Somehow cluster is depending on LABFILE2
Cluster manager shows LABFILE2 as owner node for the file server role.

If I move the role to LABFILE1 and disconnect LABFILE2, then the LABFILE1 disconnects completely of cluster too.

Why the cluster does not work on LABFILE1? I know there is a good explanation for this behaviour which I just yet do not understand. Something to do with quorums, votes, owner nodes?
