WS2012r2 two node failover cluster
Node01 and Node02 have seven 40 gb dynamic hyper-v SCSI controller hard drive disk(vhdx) with enabled virtual hard disk sharing  saved to F: \VHDs location. This location is a Storage pool volume HostClusterVD assigned drive letter F. This is a storage pool volume both Node01 and Node02 share the seven disk. Cluster validation is run using domain user and validated. Failover cluster manager cluster name is given and cluster is created. I can see the disk in disk manager and file server manager but not in the Failover cluster manager new storage pool wizard disk are not visible for scale out file server. I have read a lot of documents but no solution .  What is the solution to this for this particular problem?

Thank you

Remove Reservation from Disk

I've added some disks that are on specific nodes but made a mistake and didn't remove another node from the Possible Owners list before restarting the servers. The cluster failed over to the node that shouldn't have those disks and taken ownership of other disks. I've tried removing that node as a Possible Owner for those disks but it no longer helps the Cluster still marks those disks as reserved. I've tried evicting the node and adding it back in and also using Clear-ClusterDiskReservation but it hasn't helped. As soon as I remove the disks from the cluster the reservation clears.

Is there anything I can do remove those reservations?

Storage Spaces + JBOD - disk access routed via CSV owner node

Hi everyone

I have set up a Hyper-V cluster (Hyper-V server, not Windows+Hyper-V role) using some old hardware and wanted to play around with Storage Spaces. I have simulated a JBOD by presenting individual disks from an old HP MSA via SAS HBAs. I was able to create a new storage pool using the disks, and create a virtual disk + CSV using the pool.

Everything appeared to be functioning OK, but as soon as I move my test VM to a different node than the CSV owner the sequential read/write performance drops from 500MB/s to 100MB/s (around 1Gbit Ethernet speeds).

It would seem that all IO (including by the VM itself) is routed via the CSV owner node (even if the CSV is not in redirected access mode).

Is this by design, or am I missing something?

Thanks

Cannot connect to Failover Cluster - WMI problem

Hello, I'm experiencing the following problem on a two nodes WS2012 failover cluster, starting when I did the first setup. After 10-12 days up, I cannot connect anymore with failover cluster manager, I get "invalid query". Also, if from one of the hosts I try to connect to hyper-v manager, I get an error related to missing permissions. In the logs I cannot find anything relevant (please note that guest VM are always up&running also if I cannot connect to the cluster). I configured on the two nodes a powershell script in order to periodically send an email with the output of the command "get-clusterresource" and this morning I noticed I didn't receive the email. So I tried to run locally this command on an elevated Powershell prompt and I got "AuthorizationManager check failed". Searching online, I found that it could be a WMI problem, so I restarted the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service on the two servers and... voilà, I could connect to Failover Cluster and to Hyper-V manager. Now, I identified the process to restart to bring it back online, but I'd like to identify the cause. Any suggestion?

edit: another thing I noticed after restarting WMI process, I don't know if it is relevant

I have a two node Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition Cluster with failover sql cluster setup, User account   CLIUSR is automatic has been created by failover cluster features, today noticed in event log as "
An attempt was made to reset an account's password" as below

Subject:
Security ID: SYSTEM
Account Name:<>$
Account Domain:<>
Logon ID: 0x3E7

Target Account:
Security ID: hostname\CLIUSR
Account Name: CLIUSR
Account Domain:hostname
==

When I look at the local account on both nodes, I see that password is set to never expire, and not be able to be reset

User name                    CLIUSR
Full Name                    CLIUSR

The command completed successfully.

I accept there is a process which runs every 3 minutes which is setting the CLIUSR password over and over again.  The password is actually NOT being changed, it is just being set to the same value, if it false alarm can it be fixed to stop loading in event log

Thank you

error 1223 and Allow clients to connect through this network

$

Windows Server 2012 R2 systems clustered with three networks, one for iSCSI, one for cluster & client access and one for heartbeat cluster members only.  The clustered members only network is configured by unchecking the Allow clients to connect through this network box.  If this box for Allow clients to connect through this network is unchecked - error 1223 occurs.  Why have the option to uncheck Allow clients to connect through this network - if the action causes errors?

Service and Application clustering

I'm old school - cluster to me means a common name, common IP address, and common disk - with common resources

After cluster verification, and cluster creation, attempts to configure an Service/ Application required a cluster name, and a cluster IP address - unique from the name and IP created - why?

Is it possible to construct cluster "access" name the same as the cluster name?
Is it possible to construct cluster "access" IP address - the same as the cluster address?

Hyper-V cluster with team links to CISCO 500GX stack does not work with highavailability.

We are currently having a problem with our high availability environment whereby the cluster loses quorum and all the VMs reboot when the CISCO master is power cycled. The relevant components in the environment are shown in the diagram below:

Server A and Server B are both Microsoft Server 2012 R2.  Also, not shown is the servers are connected to a redundant SANS using MPIO.

The CISCO SG500Xs have the latest firmware version 1.4.2.4

The LAG/TEAMs have the following parameters set:

CISCO SG500X LAG parameters from GUI:

  1. Load Balance Algorithm:  IP/MAC Address
  2. Port Priority = 1
  3. LACP Timeout = Long
  4. Administrative Auto Negotiation:  Enable
  5. Administrative Flow Control:  Disable
  6. LACP:  Enable

Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster Team properties:

  1. Teaming mode: LACP
  2. Load balancing mode:  Dynamic
  3. Standby adapter:  None

The problem is when the CISCO master is power cycled the cluster shuts down and all the VMs reboot. This is a major problem.  The event log on the servers show the appropriate NIC that is connected to the master as going down which it should. However, it also shows that the TEAM is no longer operational. This causes the cluster to lose connectivity to the other nodes in the cluster and therefore the cluster shuts down and all the VMs reboot.

My understanding of LAG/TEAMS is that as long as 1 member of the LAG/TEAM is operational it should keep working. That’s the point of high availability.

So I could use any help or comments as to what I might have configured incorrectly.

I have a windows server 2012 R2 Cluster behind Firewall and I want to connect to a Shared Folder on an external server. I will need to allow port 139 and 445 on the firewall but I don't know which ip address to use. given that

Cluster IP address is X

Node 1 is X1 and Node 2 is X2

shared server IP address is Y

I tried to allow connection from IP X to IP Y on firewall with no use.

new-cluster: name "xyz" is already in use in active directory =events 4631 4657

I am stuck while creating just another 2012 R2 FailoverCluster.

The clustertest-report ist 100% fine, no errors no warnings, but every time I try to create the cluster I do get the error:

"The name "XYZ" is already in use in active directory" and the similar events 4631 and 4657 are generated. I can try any (!) name e.g.  "asdfhaifhgafj" - it does not matter at all. The error is coming up immediately no matter if I try the GUI or Powershell.

If I do precreate CNO it does not make any difference.

Configuration:

2x IBM HS22 Blades with local HDDs for OS (Win2012 R2 with any available patches) and some SAN-LUNs for shared storage and Quorum. Both are domain-member-servers only, no AD roles installed. Two NICs, NIC 1 with public IP (192.168.0.x) and NIC 2 for cluster heartbeat only (10.10.0.x, no gw, DNS=127.0.0.1). Public IPs are registered to DNS, AD computerobjects are existent.

I did create a cluster with these two machine last week - but after I could not manage to promote both nodes as a DC and could not install .Net 3.x and tinkered around, I felt better with demoting, uninstalling clusterroles, removing from AD and installing both machines clean from scratch. Both nodes do use new and unused names for sure and I already tried to disable NIC 2.

I could not google any event like mine - is there any idea out there?

VM HA during core switch reboot

$

Hi,

12 Node Cluster 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster
Blade servers across multiple blade enclosures
Each blade enclosure has 2 network switches (Dell IOA) connected to one core switch in a LACP LAG
2 core switches (Nexus 5Ks)
2 NIC teamed for Host Management, LM, CSV and Backup. Switch Independent/Dynamic

The problem is when we reboot one of the core switches it can cause hosts to shutdown the cluster service as it lost quorum.  As a test the samesubnetthreshold was increased to 120 and the during the switch reboot no VMs appeared to HA, however I wasn't involved in those tests so didn't witness them.

We reduced the threshold to 20 and rebooted the switch and 3 nodes in the cluster went to down.  Looking in the event logs one of the nodes the cluster service was stopped within 5 seconds as it lost quorum due to the amount of nodes it reported it lost connectivity to.

Any ideas as its not handling the threshold as I expected

Thanks

Jay

SOFS won't failover on other node

Hi IT folks,

Just want to seek your help regarding my SOFS setup on my lab. I have setup 2 node cluster, and everything seems to work. On my SOFS file share, I put a video file and plays it somewhere on other PC. When I turn off the node 1, everything is ok. But when I turn node 2, the video pauses. And sometimes my cluster fails.

Hope you can shed some light with this.

Thank you.

Build a cluster using DC as a node

Hi, there.

Here is the question:

- A customer asked about using a server cluster:

The environment uses a stand-alone Windows 2012 Server, which moves Active Directory, DNS Services and file storage.

Can we build a cluster adding to this one another Windows 2012 Server?

It seems that OS does not support adding DC as a node in a cluster, but the building guides doesn't tell anything about this.

I've tried to do, and during previous check a message appeared:

--------

Validate the configuration of Active Directory
Description: it Validates that all nodes have the same domain role domain and organizational unit.
Validating that all nodes have the same domain role domain and organizational unit.
Role Domain FQDN domain name site Organizational Unit
EVM-MAD-SVR1.ev-mad.local ev-mad.local Unknown error.Default-First-Site-Name OU = Domain Controllers
EVM-MAD-SVR2.ev-ev-mad.local mad.local Primary Domain Controller Default-First-Site-Name OU = Domain Controllers

Could not determine the role of some domain servers.
It could not be determined if the EVM-MAD-SVR1.ev-mad.local node is a domain controller read only because of this error: Object does not exist.

I need arguments to justify an answer to my customer, or a guide to solve this issue.

Issue with Cluster IP assigned by DHCP

Hi All,

When I try to create a cluster from 2 nodes with windows 2012 R2 (which have a DHCP configured) the cluster IP assigns one of the nodes IP and fails to become online.

I'm getting the 1049 event which tells me I have a duplicate IP with one of the nodes.

both nodes has 4 NICs but only one of them is connected to network the others are up but there is no link.

I'm running these nodes in lab environment and assigning VIP from DHCP can really help our automation.

Thanks,

Hyper-V Replica Storage for Reverse Replication

$

Hi

A short summary:

I'm running a 2 node Hyper-V Failover Cluster based on Windows Server 2012 R2. I have our VMs stored at 4 different CSVs.
This setup has already been running fine for a few years.

At the moment I'm trying to learn how Hyper-V replica works to setup a DR site for the most important VMs to start with. I've installed a server with Hyper-V also at 2012 R2 (Not a cluster!). I can successfully do a planned failover for a VM to DR site, but the issue is that I cannot do a reverse failover to the primary site, because not configured properly.

I've installed the Replica Broker role on the cluster, but I'm not sure about how to specify the location to store replica files. here. (I read another post about the issue to have several CSVs, so thats not the question if I only use one).

Lets say VM01 is localed at CSV 2 (C:\clusterstorage\volume2). Also many other VMs are located on the same CSV. VM01 is running at the DR site now and I just want it back to the cluster. Should I just specify c:\clusterstorage\Volume2 as the location? Will it "find" the original VMs files then and just update them or will it create a copy of that VM? (Of course I just want it to update the orifinal VMs files). Will this affect the other VMs on this CSV?

Just need someone to helt / confirm this so this doesn't cause a major issue...

Thanks!

Hyper V Hosts - Local Storage

So, i have 3*2TB HDDs in every node of my HV Cluster (Server 2012 R2). These are mostly unused atm.

But i would like to utilize them to be available in the cluster, for example as a volume where i can save additional VHDs for my VMs that are non productive (Shadow Copy for example).

What would be the best way to do this?

iSCSI wizard hangs in my VM, why?

hi there,

I am running three VMs in my host (Windows 7 OS, 64 bit, 8GB RAM).

My goal is create a cluster between node 2 (2012 DataCenter OS) and node 3 (2008 R2 Enterprise). Due to I am at home as the very first point i would need to create a Virtual Disk and then assign a LUN.

I've already installed iSCSI Target Client in my node 3.

Wizards hang in my node2 when I gonna create a "New iSCSI Virtual Disk" from Server Manager->iSCSI option.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

https://gyazo.com/73783c70a29df76e19ccc214fb70b650

I've tried several times and always happen the same. Where am I failing?

Both VMs are connected to my DC in the first VM (2012 DataCenter OS)

The RPC server is unavailable on the specified computer

Hi,

I've configured two Adfs servers and joined them in farm.

Primary - adfs1

secondary - adfs2

I've added Network Load balancing features in both the servers.

In primary server I've created a cluster and successfully joined the primary server in the NLB.

But, when I tried to add second server, status showing access denied and prompting for credentials, when I give domain admin credentials, the status showingThe RPC server is unavailable on the specified computer.

Both the servers are running in Hyper-v and having single ethernet only. Any suggestions???

Thanks.

Custom Service on Cluster Server (Windows Server 2012 R2)

$

I have a custom windows service installed on both of my nodes (Active-Passive) in Windows Server 2012 R2 servers. This service is hosted in an port 3001 in both the nodes. I have IIS in both nodes hosted in Port 80. For examples nodes are xxx1 and xxx2 and cluster name is xxx

When i request a web site site through the cluster name http://xxx/abc/....aspx request is going to current active node xxx1. Everything works fine.

where xxx is the hostname not ip address

I have an external service which need to call the custom service in the active node. But it can call only through ip address. If i call the service through ip address of xxx:3001 request is not going to active node. More over i dont have ip address of xxx1 and xxx2 also. How do i call the active node through the ip address of cluster ip....
